Website launched on Canadian Bahá’í efforts in international development

The Bahá’í Community of Canada’s main agency dedicated to international development has launched a website outlining its work and vision of social and economic development.

The Canadian Bahá’í International Development Agency (CBIDA) takes on projects in areas like education, sustainable development through agriculture, and community development that aim to enrich the social and spiritual life of the community. Among the countries in which it has collaborated on projects are Columbia, Honduras, and India.

The new website offers information on CBIDA’s approach to community development, background information on specific projects it has supported, as well as links to articles containing Bahá’í perspectives on questions of social and economic development.

“A website is a nice way to be able to open up a portal for learning,” says Duncan Hanks, the agency’s Executive Director, “so that people, especially Canadians, can gain access to the types of projects and work that the Bahá’í community of Canada supports as it accompanies agencies that are working in community development around the world.”

CBIDA supports its partners usually by means of providing access to funding, often in collaboration with the Canadian International Development Agency, as well as assisting with project design and monitoring and helping to build organizational capacity.

The agency has been in operation since 1981. Its office is located in Ottawa.
