Youth reflect on ways to bring about constructive social change

A series of videos, in which participants at a July youth conference held in Montréal share their reflections, is now available on the Building Community website: www.building-community.ca.

The videos show youth reflecting on the ways they serve, or are planning to serve those who are younger, and on their efforts to elevate the level of their conversations with their peers. Concepts which were discussed during the conference, such as mutual support and the role of youth in society, have also left their mark on the participants, who returned home with renewed energy.

The National Spiritual Assembly, the governing council of the Baha’is of Canada, has planned ten conferences like the one held in Montréal for various regions of the country this summer. Their goal is to continue a process started last year when 114 youth conferences were held around the world at the request of the Universal House of Justice, the world governing council of the Baha’i community.

At the regional conferences more youth were welcomed into this process, which gives people of all ages the opportunity to contribute to constructive social change and to develop their capacity to serve their communities.

A regional conference will take place this weekend in Ottawa, and the last will be held next weekend in Toronto. The other conferences have taken place this summer in Vancouver, Kelowna, Victoria, Calgary, Saskatoon, Waterloo, Montréal and Halifax.
