Learning in Action is the focus of the 37th annual Association for Baha’i Studies conference

The 37th annual conference of the Association for Baha’i Studies will take place in Irvine, California 15-18 August 2013. This year’s theme is “Learning in Action: Scholarship and Generation of Knowledge.”

The conference will focus on the nexus between learning and action – how Baha’i scholarship underlies and contributes to the process of social and cultural transformation.

“Knowledge is central to social existence,” says the Association in its theme statement. “Every human being has the right to access to knowledge and to participation in its generation, application and diffusion.”

Founded in 1975 as a result of the commitment of a diverse group of interested participants, the Association for Baha’i Studies has, through the support and encouragement of the Baha’is and Baha’i institutions, expanded far beyond its original mandate. The Association is a cooperative effort of the National Spiritual Assemblies of Canada, the United States, and Alaska. The Centre for Baha’i Studies, located in Ottawa, Canada, coordinates the activities of the Association in North America and serves as a centre for research, instruction, and information.

The Association holds annual meetings, international conferences, and special seminars and symposia. In addition, it sponsors regional conferences across North America, which provide further opportunities for scholars to present the results of their research and exchange ideas.
